고교시절 방학때 캠핑 가서 말춤을 추며 신나게 놀던 때가 생각난다

 

They took the whole Cheroke nation

Put us on this reservation

Took away our ways of life

Tomahawk and the bow and knife

그들은 체로키 땅 전부를 가져갔다

우리를 이 보호구역에 쳐박아두고

우리의 생활 방식

돌도끼 그리고 활과 칼 마저 가져 가버렸어

 

Took away our native tongue

Taught their English to our young

And all the beads we made by hand

Are nowadays made in Japan

우리의 모국어도 빼앗고

우리 아이들에게 영어를 가르쳤네

그리고 우리가 손으로 꿴 구슬들은

지금은 일본에서 만들고 있다네

 

Cherokee people, Cheroke tribe

So proud to live, so proud to die

체로키 사람, 체로키 부족

자랑스럽게 살고, 자랑스럽게 죽는다

 

They took the whole Indian nation

Locked us on this reservation

Though I wear a shirt and tie

I'm still part redman deep inside

그들은 인디안 부족 전부를 점령했고

우리를 이 보호구역에 가둬 놓았네

내가 셔츠와 타이를 입기는 하지만

아직도 나의  깊은 마음은 인디언이라네

 

But maybe someday when they learn

Cherokee nation will return
